It is next to impossible to talk about the greats in the Pleasure horse industry without mentioning Blazing Hot. The 1992 bay stallion by Hotrodders Jet Set and out of Tahnee Zippo himself earned three All American Quarter Horse Congress Championships and several AQHA World Championship titles. He is the only horse in AQHA history to earn an AQHA World Championship in Junior Western
Pleasure and Junior Western Riding in the same year (1996).
Blazing Hot was born April 17, 1992. He was trained by Robbie and Joan Schroeder and, teamed with Keith Whistle, was the unanimous winner in the 1994 Congress 2-Year-Old Snaffle Bit Futurity. As a 3-year-old, Joan showed “Blaze” to Congress Championships in the Open and Limited Western Pleasure Derby classes and Reserve Championship in Junior Western Pleasure. In 1996, during his third consecutive year of showing, Blazing Hot was shown by Robbie and Joan at the tough Sun Country Circuit, winning Circuit Championships in Junior Western Pleasure and Junior Western Riding, as well as the All-Around Championship . He spent the next few months in the breeding barn before being polished and ready to go to the AQHA World Show in November. There he made history by winning a World Championship in Junior Western Riding with Robbie on a Friday afternoon and then returning that evening to win a World Championship title in Junior Western Pleasure with Joan.
It’s hard to match such an impressive show record. But the thing that sets Blazing Hot apart is his ability to sire foals with equal or even greater show records. It is his ability as a sire that the NSBA is inducting Blazing Hot into its Hall of Fame in the Breeding Horse category. Year after year his offspring capture Open, Amateur & Youth World Championships, Congress Championships and prestigious wins. In 2008, six different Blazing Hot offspring earned NSBA World Championship titles.
In all, his offspring have accumulated over 33,000 AQHA points and over $2 million in earnings. He now boasts 10 AQHA World Champions; 10 AQHA Reserve World Champions; six AQHA High Point winners, nine AQHA Champions and AQHA 195 Superior Awards.
In August 2008, Sure Am Hot, sired by Blazing Hot and out of Surely Sheza Zippo, was the undisputed Champion of the illustrious $100,000 Equine Sports Medicine 2-Year-Old Western Pleasure Signature Class at the Reichert Celebration. In 2007, Blazing Hot Cookies, sired by Blazing Hot and out of Cookie Leaguer, won the celebrated $100,000 Hylton 3-Year-Old Maiden Western Pleasure class at the Reichert Celebration.
Sure Am Hot went on to win an NSBA World Championship in 2-Year-Old Open Western Pleasure with Gil Galyean and the 2-Year-Old Non-Pro Western Pleasure with owner Jenna Dempze that year. And, Extremely Hot Chips (sired by Blazing Hot) won an NSBA World Championship in Intermediate Open 2-Year-Old Western Pleasure with Wade Black riding for owner Cheryl Mullikin in 2008.
Blazing Hot is also the sire of the NSBA’s 2005 Horse of the Year, Hot Lopin Louise.
“It’s been a lifelong dream and an honor to own such a great individual,” said Joan Schroeder. “Every horse owner dreams of their horse going into the NSBA Hall of Fame and to achieve this is just the icing on the cake.”
